Making sure the size is correct before having a ring made.

Step one - with a willing participant

If this is not a surprise, always measure the finger more than once in different temperatures, as fingers can change. If possible, use metal gauges. The fit needs to be snug, but not so snug that it stops the blood from flowing.

Use an existing ring and note which finger and hand it's on, and take a photo if possible.

Ask a parent or grandparent who has a ring and see if they can conspire to have them try it on. Excuse - I want to leave you this ring?
